A plate assembly is the plate with its gasket already fitted. Ordering the assembly rather than the bare plate is usually the right call on a repair, because the gasket has to be replaced anyway.
Hand matters. Plates alternate through the pack, left and right, and a pack assembled with the wrong hand in one position will not seal. The hand is in the table; check it against the plate you are replacing.
Material. 304 and 316 stainless cover most duty. Titanium is for chlorides. If plates have cracked rather than worn, the material is the question to ask before ordering the same thing again.
Photograph it before it goes in the skip. Chloride stress corrosion cracking has a distinctive branching pattern, erosion thins the metal at the port, and mechanical damage looks like mechanical damage. The pattern says what to change.
Replacing a cracked plate with an identical plate, in a service that cracked it, buys you the same failure on the same schedule.
It can be done and it is occasionally the economical answer — titanium only where the aggressive stream runs, stainless elsewhere — but it is a selection decision, not a substitution. Ask before you mix.

The assembly comes with the gasket fitted. The bare plate does not.
No. The pack is a sealed alternating stack; removing a plate changes the channel arrangement and the seal.
